Today is the deadline for the CA Documentary Project Application.
The California Documentary Project (CDP) is a competitive grants program that supports documentary film, radio, and new media productions that enhance our understanding of California and its cultures, peoples, and histories.
I’m hoping our film project, a documentary called “Domestic Violence in America,” will receive funding. This application required the support of many individuals – from filmmakers to humanities advisors and more. A special thanks to the all people who helped get this project to it’s current place.
Sample from the grant application – our project summary.
ARTesia Healing Arts is an organization dedicated to providing a peaceful, healing and safe environment for the expression and teaching of visual arts to all members in its community affected by domestic violence. ARTesia’s project is to finalize a 20-30 minute video – a dramatic documentary, “Domestic Violence in America”.
The message is simple, “Domestic Violence is Everyone’s Business.” For millions of women the trauma never goes away. It’s always in the back of their mind. Art helps break this vicious cycle by helping survivors and their children to heal through creative expression and individuation. This project targets two audiences; individuals who want to help with existing social service programs and individuals who need help from existing social service programs.
The documentary, “Domestic Violence in America” is an original film and a unique and valuable addition to the existing history of films about the subject of domestic violence (http://www.ncdsv.org/ncd_linksvideos.html). We have documented the California experience through interviews that share the personal stories of four women discussing issues of significance regarding domestic violence. The project is a continuation of the PSA campaign, “Domestic Violence is Everyone’s Business.” Produced by ARTesia, with Director Stew Birbrower, the campaign won “The best of non-profit advertising and marketing for social causes,” 2012 – osocio.org. With the CDP Production grant, ARTesia aims to expand the message into a documentary, “Domestic Violence in America” and create a marketing plan to promote the documentary throughout California.
