Progress on new art workshop

It’s only a few days before Christmas and Mercury has finally gone direct. The celestial energy shift is speeding up the progress of drafting an art workshop involving civic engagement and psychology. I’ve been working with different groups of people on several core ideas for SO long and finally, the parts are starting to come together and take on a new shape. The different collaborative groups are; fellow artist, fellow Jungian scholars, fellow entrepreneurs, fellow activists, fellow game players…. and so on…for the core ideas and curiosity about:

  • Understanding the nature of our existence and reality
  • Experiencing the best life has to offer
  • Connecting with others

 

1. How to glide at the top

Going with the flow is part of my creative process. In the flow, I don’t stress about deadlines and I trust in the divine timing of things. Sometimes I think of flow literally as an electrical current of energy that is moving through a system. Here are a few interesting quotes about the psychology of ‘flow’:

2. How to set an even playing field

SETboxright_0Individuals are always changing their skill levels. If change unbalances the group flow, how do plan for this adjustment? Will a group naturally switch between problem-solving and problem-finding to maintain flow? What role does perception play in identifying comparable skills? I need to do more research and if I can’t find answers to these questions. Who knows, I might be the first to ask these questions. One of my skills is finding commonality among seemingly diverse things. I found this out when I was introduced to the SET game by my cousin and it was clear that I am one who sees patterns in diversity more quickly than I see them in commonality.

SET builds cognitive, logical and spatial reasoning skills as well as visual perception skills while playing a game! Because it has a rule of logic (three cards that are all the same or all different in each individual feature), and because players must apply this rule to the spatial array of patterns all at once, they must use both left brain and right brain thought processes. This fun game actually exercises your brain!

3. How to win at random chance

To win at random change you probably need to play the game many times. Insight, or a creative spark, is a similar experience. Here are a few quotes from Group Genius about perception and insight:

I have more experience with creative insight. But honestly, my creative process is so intuitive and random that trying to explain all of its diversity to other people is a challenge. Fortunately, as I get more experience teaching, it becomes easier to find relevant resources to help me narrow down the topics, like the Imagine Define Design worksheet from AnimatingDemocrady.org. I got this resource from the CAW residency application, which I learned about during a presentation at the Santa Barbara 2017 Art Symposium which I learned about from an email my mother got from one of her friends who is on the board of the county art commission. I have not done this worksheet yet, but I’m planning on it straightening out my ideas.
